ECOP Development

ICES Strategic Initiative on Early Career Scientists (SIIECS) and PICES Advisory Panel on Early Career Ocean Professionals (AP-ECOP) are the major actors of SmartNet Capacity Development components. They lead various activities for early career development in ICES and PICES, including mentor-mentee events and skill-development workshops, and serve as the Scientific Steering Committee members for the ICES/PICES Early Career Scientist Conference series (ECSC) (Roman and Lachance, 2023).

Working with the Global ECOP Programme, they expand ECOP networks to broader communities beyond the conventional ICES/PICES regions. SmartNet has been promoting career development of SIDS ECOPs by leveraging existing ICES/PICES frameworks and infrastructures (Chiba et al., 2024).
