A MENTORING EVENT FOR EARLY CAREER OCEAN PROFESSIONALS (ECOPS) will be held on Tuesday May 5, 2026 from 6–7:30pm at the symposium venue in Salon Pichilingue 4, immediately after the conclusion of the scientific talks for that day.
During this event, early career scientists will have the opportunity to interact with mentors who have expertise across diverse geographic regions, research disciplines, and career-related areas. Mentors include members of the symposium’s organizing and scientific steering committees, plenary and invited speakers, and topic session and workshop conveners.
The draft program shows that the event will be split into two sessions lasting 25-30 minutes each, with participants rotating once to different discussion groups. This interactive event is most successful if early career scientists think in advance of some points/questions in their relevant categories for each session. The discussions are meant to be informal, and the mentors are prepared to speak on the session topics, but are eager to first learn what the early career scientists want to know. All mentors and mentees are expected to attend the entire 1.5 hours of the event. Beverages and simple snacks will be provided.
